Redesigned Movie Poster- Lady Bird (2017)

The film "Lady Bird" takes place in 2002 where an artistically inclined 17-year old girl is growing up in Sacramento, California. Christine going by the name "Lady Bird" is an outspoken high school senior. She hates most aspect of her life. Growing up her family was barely scraping by due to the poor economy. Her dad also recently got laid off from his job making the mother work double shifts at the hospital. Despite her family's low income lady bird has big dreams of finally leaving her home town and attend a sophisticated New York City college. However, attending a public college closer to home would be a lot cheaper and safer. Overall, Lady bird tries to survive life setbacks in order to make her dreams a reality and find herself.

Design Idea

My imagery is supposed to represent the idea of freedom in the film. The background is a landscape of Sacramento which is her hometown that she feels stuck in. The generic un-identified lady is supposed to represent her nickname "ladybird". The lady could also represent older authors she might idolize. By calling herself "lady" she is living out her fantasy of becoming a professional author one day. I decided to also put some birds on top of the face as well. This tells a story of her setting free from her parents and becoming the person that she wants to be. The bigger bird is supposed to represent her and her big dreams and the two smaller birds are supposed to represent her parents smaller minds trying to hold her back. For example, she moves to New York City to go to school and conquer all of her dreams. However, her parents wanted her to go the safe route and stay at a school cheaper and closer to home.
